    Ms. Zhou is a Partner resident in Haiwen's Hong Kong office.  Ms. Zhou has deep expertise and experience in the areas of entertainment and media, intellectual property, M&A and general corporate, and she serves a wide range of TMT clients from China and US.  

  • Professional History

    Ms. Zhou joined Haiwen in 2017.  Prior to joining Haiwen, Ms. Zhou had practiced law for more than eight years with Covington & Burling LLP and Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton LLP. Ms. Zhou also worked for Sony Pictures Entertainment and Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation as part of their in-house legal teams.

    In the entertain and media sector, Ms. Zhou serves international clients such as Sony Pictures, Universal Pictures and Cartoon Saloon and Chinese corporate clients such as Alibaba Pictures, CMC, Sparkle Roll, Fun Age, Galloping Horse and Gootime Media.  Ms. Zhou also represents A-list film producers, directors and actors in their exploration of domestic and overseas opportunities.  Ms. Zhou acted as production counsel for theatrical films including Wolfwalkers (five Annie Awards including Best Director and Best Independent Animated Feature), “Wish Dragon” (nominee for Best Character Animation, Annie Awards), “Cloud Atlas” (written and directed by the Wachowskis and Tom Tykwer), “Man of Tai Chi” (Keanu Reeves’ directorial debut), “Sophie’s Revenge” (produced by and starring Zhang Ziyi), “Let the Bullets Fly” (directed by and starring Jiang Wen), “The Orphan of Zhao” (directed by Chen Kaige), “The Karate Kid” (starring Jackie Chan and Jaden Smith), “Shanghai Calling” (director Daniel Hsia’s first feature, for which Hsia won the Best Screenwriter Award at the 2012 Shanghai International Film Festival and a Best New Director/Outstanding First Feature award from the 2012 Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival), “Bride Wars”, “The Bravest”, “Monster Run”, “One Day”, “Summer in Changsha”, “The Butcher, the Swordsman and the Chef”, “Love in Space”, “Hot Summer Days”, “101 Proposal”, “Journey to the West” and “What Women Want ”.

    Ms. Zhou's practice also covers foreign direct investment in China, mergers & acquisitions, private equity investment, real estate, employment, distribution and franchises, intellectual property, telecom, and anti-corruption compliance.  She has provided comprehensive services and assisted clients with structuring and documenting location-based entertainment projects (including mega parks, indoor parks, world expos and international sports events), joint venture projects, acquisition of intellectual property rights, establishment of entities engaged in content creation and distribution, purchase of copyright libraries, and mergers and acquisitions in intellectual property right intensive industries. Her corporate clients include Tencent, Zhongsheng Group, Beijing Culture Investment Group, Tang Media Partners, Keyestone Group, J&JJ, Bojue Media, Vivid Star Media and Nanpai Entertainment.

    Ms. Zhou obtained an LL.B. degree from East China University of Political Science and Law in 2002, an LL.M. degree from Munich Intellectual Property Law Center in Germany in 2005, and an LL.M degree from Northwestern University School of Law in the United States in 2006.

    Ms. Zhou's native language is Mandarin Chinese, and she speaks English fluently.
