Eric has over 24 years of legal experiences. Prior to joining Haiwen, Eric was a partner with one of the “Magic Circle” firms, Linklaters, and was the managing partner of Zhao Sheng Law Firm, whose has a joint operation with Linklaters in China. Before that, Eric worked with a well-known financial institution and a couple of PRC leading law firms.
Eric acted for a large number of international leading financing institutions and MNCs on their acquisitions of target companies, establishment of joint ventures and daily operations in China and subsequent exits from China. In recent years, Eric represented various central SOEs, Chinese sovereign funds, privately-owned companies and investment institutions on their outbound investments in many different countries and regions around the globe.
Eric’s recent major transactions include acting for: a number of Chinese sovereign funds on their various equity investments in different countries and regions; UBS Group on its multiple acquisitions of equity interests from other shareholders of UBS Securities; Zhejiang Jingsheng Mechanical & Electrical Co., Ltd. (a PRC listed company) on the proposed set-up of a joint venture with Applied Materials in the PRC to acquire the solar businesses of Applied Materials; PDT Technologies Company Limited (IDG Energy) on its acquisition of China solar business from RENA Technologies GmbH; China Merchants Group on its acquisition and restructuring of the port assets of the Bohai Rim Region in Liaoning Province (including a number of listed companies); China Three Gorges on its proposed acquisition of majority stake in Portuguese energy utility Energias de Portugal; CP Group on the HK$72.7bn acquisition of a 15.6% stake in Ping An Insurance from HSBC; BP on its setup of multiple joint ventures in China; UOB on its subscription of shares in Heng Feng Bank; China Construction Bank on its acquisition of the majority shares of Bank Windu, an Indonesian listed bank; China COSCO Shipping Corporation Limited on its acquisition of 10% shares in Shanghai Rural Commercial Bank; and Yanfeng (a subsidiary of SAIC Motor) on its establishment of the largest automotive interiors company in the world.
Eric is an arbitrator of Shanghai International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (Shanghai International Arbitration Center).

Eric obtained his LL.B. degree from Shanghai University in 1998 and his LL.M degree from University of Bristol in 2004.
